a stink bug

survival of a stink bug

“Stink” but these bugs blend in with sticks

The stink bug that looked like a stick caught my eye as it flew like a staggering college student after an evening of celebration. Almost immediately, the web in the upper corner of the window caught the bug and the spider eagerly attacked. I watched in real time the battle for survival that played out in horror films such as “Arachnophobia.” The bug struggled as the spider tried to spin it still like the stick on a cotton candy treat. But its weight and shape allowed the bug that stinks when it’s squished to break free of the sticky strings.

I swear I saw it shake off the close call, and I thought about throwing it back into the web.
